Still unsure. What do you think?

I am down to my lowest weight since surgery.  I have lost the weight that I gained during my stressful time.  I am finally at the lowest I have been in many years.  It feels great.  I am only there by  4 ounces, but I will take it!!!

I am still unsure, but I think the difference was that I reduced my calories.

For years, since 1998 to be exact, I have counted carbs.  I started Lindora Medical Diet which is Dr supervised in 1998 for the very first time.  I learned to count carbs.  60 to 70 grams of carbs a day.  I stayed with the leaner proteins.  I wouldn't eat a pound of bacon a day etc.  It worked.  I would use it off and on to lose weight.  While I was with Lindora, it worked wonderfully.

I applied all I knew about how to lose weight pre-op while lowering my bmi and post op.  I knew I wasn't eating as good as I should but I still counted my carbs.  This last week I decided to switch to counting calories.  What do you know??? I lost weight.

I have always heard and known that calories in and out were what mattered.  I guess I have to say it worked for me this week too.

I am going to give it another week watching my calories and see what happens.  If it works I am going to stick with it.

What is your opinion on carbs vs calories?

Have a great day all!

  1. Counting calories always worked for me and seemed simpler than counting carbs but to each his own! Whatever works! YAY for the new low.

  2. The thing with both calories and carbs is, you need both. It is the quality, and of course the quantity, of the carbs and calories you consume. If you are choosing good quality carbs, then my focus would be on monitoring calories. Best of luck!

  3. Way to go on the lowest! I've always done better with calories.

  4. I agree with Wallflower. If the carbs are good, then focus on calories. I think either one works. Ultimately, by cutting carbs, you cut calories...that's why it works.

  5. Exactly as said above; you need carbs. Carbs also help proteins digest better. I count calories and fat grams.

  6. Right now I focus on getting my protein in with the least amount of calories. Doesn't leave too much room for many carbs. Congrats on being at your lowest.

  7. Congrats on the new low!!!

I go back and forth- sometimes I'm a carb counter, other times, a calorie counter. Right now I'm a sugar counter so, we'll see how that works out. I guess as long as the carbs are the good kind, then carbs would be my first choice- since I hate trying to figure out how many calories are in a potato. I mean, what about the size of it? You know? But I guess that goes for carbs too (although you're probably not eating potatoes if you're counting carbs!)

  8. I count calories and protein. I really try to just eat good carbs, which to me means whole grains, fruits and veggies. I try to stay away from things with processed white flour or that are breaded and deep fried. I target 1200 calories a day and keep track of them on my phone (the app I use even has a bar-code scanner that makes things so much easier to track). I don't track calories on weekends. We're usually not home so we eat out a lot on weekends so it's just not worth the aggravation. I do try to make good, healthy choices on weekends to limit the damage. And not tracking on weekends gives me a break too so I don't get burned out on tracking.

I think you're doing great!! Even a loss of 1/2 pound a week is a win because it's better than 1/2 pound gain. Love you girl!!

  9. Definitely to each their own, but counting calories is what has worked for me. I look at protein and calories and let fat & carbs do as they may... usually they aren't that bad because when you control calories, you typically control fat, carbs and sugar naturally...
